Backing Up Your Files

Backing up your files can be one of the most important things in the world to do. Without your files, you aren’t a photographer. Over the 5 years I have been shooting, I have accumulated more than 800 GB’s of photographs. If I were to lose any of these files, I would not be a happy camper. I currently have 6 different back-up destinations. A 1 TB G-Drive is connected to my computer and backs-up once every day. This backs up my entire system, including applications, so I could run my system on another computer, which I am actually doing right now because my computer is at the Apple store for repairs. I have a second “passport” hard drive that serves the same purpose as the one that sits on my desk, but is mobile and stays on an off location site. I then have a 500 GB external hard drive that I use to back-up my earlier files, a second 1 TB hard drive that I use to back-up my newer files, and another 600 GB that resides in my Dad’s FreeNas box. Finally, I have an unlimited amount of space on an internet server back-up destination. Now that seems like a lot right? Well, it is important to keep my files safe, and to keep my business running. The world doesn’t stop when a computer goes down.
