A swarm of honey bees clustered on the high branch of a tree next to the bee yard. my Dad had to recover the bees, so it was interesting to watch. They settled about 60 feet up in the tree. As my Dad got into position in the tree to recover them, I was able to get some good shots of the group.
I was challenged with the extreme backlighting and dense leaf cover, but I was able to make do with the flash and better beamer.
My Dad was able to recover the bees, and they are spending the night in a temporary hive. All in all, it was interesting to see the whole process.

Very cool! Great shots for the conditions.
that is amazing… all those bees… how did your dad ever get them all down.. there is no way he could have climbed out there… did he whistle and guide them into the hive… only kidding… but really, how did he do it.
PS… the shots are pretty cool.
He first tried to tie a rope to the branch and cut it down, but once the branch gave way, the bees slingshotted everywhere. They re-clustered closer to him. He was able to stick a long pole out with a bucket connected to it and knock the cluster into the bucket. All of this was done 60 feet up with the wind swaying the tree.
I guess he gets his bravery from being a fireman… No way would you catch me up 60 feet in a swaying tree trying to catch BEES!!!!! I’m thinking more crazy than BRAVE..
