Always Something New

As my photography evolves, so does the need for new gear. In my recent Air2Air shoot, I had the problem of my buffer filling up and not being cleared quick enough. That is a good problem to have since it means there is an awesome subject in front of your lens! The easy way to fix it is to get a faster card. I have been using a 16 GB Lexar 133x SD Class 10. It does the job, but when I saw Lexar came out with a new series of cards, I jumped on them. I ordered the 16 GB Lexar 600x SD Class 10 UHS-1. UHS-1 stands for Ultra High Speed Class 1. I did a test to see how long it would take to rip off 11 frames (the buffer limit for the D7000) and have the card clear the buffer. Here are the times for comparison. 133x took 17 seconds to finish the task while the 600x took 12 seconds. That extra 5 seconds is a lot in photography. When you have three gorgeous planes flying next to you, those 5 seconds could make the difference! Now you may be asking price. These cards a re dirt cheap! The new UHS-1 version is $47, a mere $10 more than the old version. Oh yeah and it isn’t just buffer to card speed that is improved, the card to computer speed is improved as well!
