As promised, here are a few more Bared Owl photos from the time this guy was in my yard. The image above shows the Owl blinking. The blueish color you see over its eyes is the nictating membrane which protects its eye, but still allows it to see. The eyelids are protruding from the top of the eye. This image was taken from the opposite angle of the previous one, and presented a more challenging lighting situation.
This image is pretty interesting because there is in fact two birds in the frame. Can you find the second?
If you didn’t, the second bird is a Brown Creeper and is just above the Owl’s head on the tree trunk. It is pretty interesting what you can catch in the frame when you are firing away!
