Joey Lounsbury is a 16 year old, award winning photographer. He is the lead photographer of J Lounsbury Photography, and is the author of this blog. Joey received his first camera, a Nikon D40, as a Christmas present in 2007. He attended classes on how to use the camera from various people including renowned photographer, Bryan Peterson, although much of his skills were learned through trial and error. In 2009, Joey won an honorable mention for his Mute Swan Cygnets photograph in the Great Backyard Bird Count photo contest, which received over 6,000 photo entries! Among other accomplishments, Joey has been an exhibiting photographer at numerous local stores and events, including Wild Birds Unlimited, Nico’s Pizza & Pasta, The Newtown Art Festival, and the Tarrywile Park Art Exhibit. Joey has also given numerous informative lectures to local groups and clubs, such as, the Ridgefield Men’s Club, Ridgefield Founder’s Hall, Cartus Shutterbugs, and the Candlewood Camera Club. Joey spoke about Endangered Shorebirds, Photographing Hummingbirds, as well as a Video Presentation about nature photography in general. Joey’s accomplishment in 2011 was becoming the official photographer for the Danbury Whalers, a local professional hockey team. Joey continues to evolve as a photographer. He photographs a diverse amount of subjects including, birds, aviation, landscapes, sports, and macro. Joey aims to become a successful freelance Aviation Photographer as well as a Sports Illustrated Photographer.
